(BenQ Materials helps children from low-income families with free glasses)

BenQ Materials has started a program in conjunction with the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families to provide glasses to children from low-income families who need them. Giving the children eyeglasses that fit them and correct their vision will help them as they grow and learn.

According to figures from the Fund, there are more than 1000 children in Taiwan who are in urgent need of corrective eyeglasses. For the new program, we recruited Kobayashi Optical to supply vision testing and optician services for the program at 228 of its outlets throughout Taiwan including Penghu, as we together showed our concern for the eye health of economically disadvantaged schoolchildren.

BenQ Materials first staged a fundraising effort asking employees to donate one day’s income as initial seed money for the program. For each package of Miacare contact lenses sold, BenQ materials donates 1% of the retail price to aid children. Our hope is that by coordinating everybody’s efforts, we can help ensure a bright future for economically disadvantaged children, providing concrete assistance to improve their vision.
