Charitable efforts deserve to be continued from one generation to the next, and the spirit of giving should be cultivated from childhood. On March 28, as part of its month of charity events, the BenQ Foundation successfully held a children’s art contest at the Nanjing BenQ Medical Center.

The contest was organized by the Nanjing branch of the BenQ Foundation, with nearly 100 young children from the Nanjing Jianye Experimental Primary School, the primary school affiliated with the Hexi branch of Jinling Junior High School, and the families of BenQ Medical Center employees submitting works that expressed the love in their hearts—the contest theme. Another highlight of the event was a recital by six young pianists under the instruction of a BenQ Hospital employee family member. As the melodies of the "Starlight Waltz" and "Viennese Melody" rang out, the mingling of art and music seemed to mirror the combination of children’s innocence and love that the contest celebrated. As the contest began, the children eagerly began using drawing tools to give expression to their imaginations, lending visual form to their understanding of “love”. The drawing tools such as crayons, markers, pastels, and colored pencils became the children’s “magic wands”, transforming the blank sheets of paper into vivid portrayals of childhood wonder. The children entered in the contest ranged in age from the eldest at 12 down to one who had only recently turned two. The mother of 26-month-old Jia-qi Zhang said, “Even though she is still small, and doesn’t understand the idea of charity, the spirit of giving is something I want to instill in her from a young age. Having her participate in this event helped her subconsciously learn what love is and how to love others.” The emcee of the event, eight-year-old Rui-yan Lu was extremely happy to participate, saying “I always try to help my mother out, and when I’m on the subway I’ll give up my seat to seniors. In the future, I want to be a volunteer and help others alongside my big brothers and sisters at the BenQ Foundation.”

The contestants were divided into a younger and an older group, and a total of 12 works were chosen for awards. After the contest, they were displayed along with other outstanding works for a BenQ Foundation charity exhibition. They will subsequently to be printed into commemorative albums or postcards.

Love for our fellows, the future of charity, let us pass it on from one generation to the next...
