BenQ has been a partner of Intel Extreme Masters (short: IEM) for the last five years and proudly celebrated this edition Grand Finals of IEM as the first one with ZOWIE as its eSports brand. From March 4th to 6th, 2016 more than 100,000 gaming enthusiasts gathered in Spodek Arena in Katowice, Poland to get a glimpse of their heros, the world’s best gamers of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void and League of Legends. For these Grand Finals, BenQ ZOWIE provided leading eSport monitors to the professional teams on stage, warming-up areas, casters and production but also gave an unique touch-and-feel experience for visitors on the BenQ ZOWIE stand, showcasing both the latest monitors and gaming peripherals.
With the world-class XL-series eSport monitor as Official Tournament Monitor of Intel Extreme Masters Season 10 events, BenQ ZOWIE provided more than 500 monitors in a mix of XL-series and RL-series monitors to ESL as well as many other partners like Intel, Sega, Ubisoft, Twitch and HyperX. While ZOWIE’s sponsored teams Fnatic, Natus Vincere and mousesports also grasp its attention and made its appearance on the stages of CS:GO at IEM Grand Finals, in addition BenQ ZOWIE also cought a glimpse at other gaming disciplines with Fnatic in LoL and Euronics players FireCake and Nerchio in SCII competitions.
The fans were able to try the XL- and XR-series of eSport monitors as well as the full range of eSport gears including mice, mousepads and keyboards on the BenQ ZOWIE stand during the Intel Extreme Masters event. During each event day, the BenQ ZOWIE stand attracted massive fan crowds via numerous challenging games like EloHell competition looking out for the most good-looking Cosplay, one-on-one and group gaming competitions and Pro versus Joe competitions. Some lucky fans managed to get autographs or even pictures with their ultimate gaming idols of Fnatic and mousesports teams. The promo girls sweeped up the young crowd and handed out some nice giveaways and cool prizes which could be won with the daily raffles.
Some selected highly influential European bloggers and Polish youtubers were invited as VIP guests to BenQ ZOWIE stand to experience the true features of the latest monitors and gaming peripherals. And for those enthusiasts who were convinced by the quality of BenQ ZOWIE monitors, a sales promo with 20% discount was offered in co-op with selected retailers and etailers in Poland.
The world’s best gamers returned to Katowice for the third consecutive year to fight for the most prestigious titles and trophies in the Grand Finals of Intel Extreme Masters with a total prize money of USD 500,000. With CS:GO, it was Fnatic who won their second World Championship title at Intel Extreme Masters Katowice. The Swedes took home the lion’s share of the US$250,000 prize pool as well as the tournament win, beating Luminosity Gaming in the finals with 3-0. In the top-level competition of LoL, SK Telecom T1 emerged as the Intel Extreme Masters World Champion, thus earning the most part of total US$100,000 prize pool as well as the Intel Extreme Masters trophy, as in the end they defeated Fnatic with 3-0 final scoreline. And Intel Extreme Masters StarCraft II World Championship was also an incredible competition spanning over four days, Choi “Polt” Seong Hun triumphed, taking his fourth World Championship title in addition to the lion’s share of the tournament’s US$150,000 prize pool.
Intel Extreme Masters is the longest running global pro gaming tour in the world. Started in 2006 by ESL, the competition features Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, StarCraft II and League of Legends tournaments across multiple continents. After four thrilling days of Intel Extreme Masters World Championship 2016 in Poland, the Spodek Arena in Katowice was fully sold out and in total 113,000 visitors passed the gates.
